Just returned from a funeral. In fact this is the first time which i actually attended the full process of the wake. From arriving and paying respect to the dead at the void deck, then to Mandai Rd to witness the cremation, then to Tong Teck Temple, and then back to the void deck at Sims Drive. The deceased was actually my grandmother's husband's brother. He was 85 when he passed away. Though we were not close, I do remember that every Chinese New Year, I will visit his house, and he will give me a red packet and Ribena. This is what I will say to him, "Lao Dior, seng jia ju yi" (In Teochew, it means extending him New Year's greeting.) But, from next year onwards, I do not think that there will be such visiting anymore. At the point of cremation, many of his family members broke down and cry, including my grandmother. I was a bit shaken for a second, but I held back my tears. Life is short, treasure it...
