Quiz: Do You Trust Too Much
You have a healthy sense of trust.
Generally, you give people the benefit of the doubt, but you don't put blind faith in every stranger you meet -- especially if that person is asking you for money. You understand the importance of taking certain precautions when hiring a babysitter or making a major purchase, and you rarely confide in people you don't know well. But you also know when to let go -- say, to give money to a homeless person knowing full well he might use it for booze rather than food. You're willing to take such leaps because ultimately you trust yourself to be able to handle someone else's betrayal. M.J. Ryan, author of Trusting Yourself: How to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed and Live More Happily with Less Effort (Broadway, 2004), recalls her first date with her husband, where he announced that he was in love with her. "I decided I would proceed with awareness -- either he's a lunatic or he's madly in love. Sometimes, you just have to say, 'We'll see.'"
