Went to Balestier Temple today with family and relatives all this morning. It was my grandfather's death anniversary. Think is a yearly event where all of us would gather at the same venue and at the same time.
We went to this Hakka Coffeeshop along Balestier road. Can't remember the name, but it is rather famous, as there are quite a no of magazines and newspapers writeps that are pinned almost everywhere in the shop. There are classic dishes like "Suan Pan Zi", "Lei Cha", "Basil Omelette", "Hakka Fried Noodles" etc. I've never tried "Lei Cha" before. It is a really new dish to me. Basically, it consists of two separate dishes. One bowl of tea(green coloured), that is supposedly brewed with some herbs and a variety of tea. This type of dish is said to be very good for health. Next is a separate bowl of white rice, which consists of some vegetables, peanuts and maybe a few slices of salted/cuttlefish. Can't really remember though. The traditional way to eat is to actually pour the entire bowl of tea into that bowl of rice and mix well. You can also choose to eat and drink them separately, up to individual preference. I find that the tea has a weird and funny taste, hmm, not to my liking. But I like the rice, very tasty!
After lunch, we proceeded to Li Chua's uncle place and chill out. He was very enthusiastic to show off all his precious records. Really classic ones. There are so many, and we are truely impressed! Youngsters like us can't really appreciate, so decided to sing KTV instead. To our dismay, somehow the mics couldn't work!! We din want to spend money on KBox since it is a Sunday... Haha, since we are so cheapo, we decided to just nuah in Eileen's room and started snapping pictures of ourselves. Think gals always have so much of chatting, gossips and laughter. One of the pics with me inside was so super funny and I truely look like one "ga shwee" or they term as mandarin orange.. Scary! Cannot position myself to take picture in future! Too bad Eileen and Isaac are not there to join us, if not, guess it will be much more fun! Looking forward to the BBQ session on Xmas Day!
